I am really trying to understand the issue with them. I understand why weaves are disliked. But braids are a natural style with maybe a lil hair added to give length. Alopecia= hair mates. There are ways to naturally reverse alopecia …. Gluing a lace front wig on top of your head is not going to help the situation.
Most beautiful black woman exotic braids. I have locs that are shoulder length and I’m about to get braids for a different look with some color🤸🏾♀️ braids are usually a protective style. And you are a beautiful black woman. Dont let these people have you questioning nothing. Some of them hate their moms so much it shows in their interaction with women.
Your braids are cultural from our ancestors roots they are beautiful. Don’t even have black folk hair to braid!! Brush that little girl hair and let her be.
She is talking about African tradition when she has a child and a husband who are not African? Also I noticed that she left out that black women during slavery would creatively, heroically and cleverly braid messages into their hair to pass on to other groups of enslaved people to avoid detection or braid maps into their hair that enslaved people could follow to freedom. I’m not surprised though because I’m sure that would offend her husband.
But anyway, Black American women used to use braiding time to bond with their daughters while talking about various issues, spending time together, discussing different topics, teaching, etc. I hate when people use Africa to make it seem like they are awake. What I don’t get is that just 50 years after Jim Crow legally ended, we are rushing to date and marry into the families of the people who participated in or benefited from destruction of black families, lives, businesses, homes, marriages and communities.
And what’s worse is that some of our parents and grandparents who were alive then are still alive now. My parents were and my father died just 2 years ago. My mother is still here. My father couldn’t understand this. He and my mother were proud of their 50 year marriage to one another. Why is it that we’d rather rush into the arms, beds and laps of our enemies rather than into those of other black men and black women? These people do not love us. Do we see them trying to end systemic racism or institutionalized racism that they benefit from? How can someone call themselves your best friend while profiting from your pain and an environment that is toxic to you?
Real love is about putting you first, having your best interests at heart and making sacrifices for you that he or she might not necessarily benefit from. Not standing by and watching as your family faces discrimination in: housing, incarceration, police treatment, wage increases, promotions, neighborhood funding, etc. Black men and black women aren’t supposed to be enemies; we are supposed to be best friends. How is it that some of us can’t connect with one another, will blame all or most for the actions of a few, etc.? And yet we somehow are able to make peace with our and our ancestors’ ancient enemies without much effort.
How can we so easily trust people who are still openly and secretly supporting and benefiting from our community’s destruction? Not friend but best friend in the entire world? Seriously? Well that’s not going to be me, no matter what. Black women are my first, second, third and final choice. Not because I don’t have any other options or because I’m settling but because they are the best women in the world. They are intelligent, sophisticated, thoughtful, creative, gorgeous, stunning, exquisite and wise. Why would I try the rest, when I can marry the best? As my father used to say….we need to wake up, it’s later than we think.
We can’t say that we live in a system that teaches that black people are inferior and non-blacks are superior then jump into lasting relationships with those same people claiming that they are our best friends in the entire world. A person can’t sit there and be okay with a system that is exploiting / mistreating you so that their group (and others) can profit from your pain and claim to love you at the same time. Unless the definition of love changed? Black men and black women have to wake up and start to realize who their real friends and real enemies are.
Next episode on the bedwench chronicles: Serena Williams braids her mulatto baby’s hair. No it’s not okay to shave your edges for lace fronts.
